PUT a date in your diary for this Sunday, December 5, for the last chance this year to see and hear a live concert on The 1935 Mighty Compton cinema Organ.
At the keyboard for the concert at Fentham Hall, Marsh Lane, Hampton in Arden, B92 0AH will be guest organist Nick Martin, BEM.
Nick started his musical career studying the piano but by the age of 11 he’d fallen for the theatre organ.
In 1975, whilst on a family visit to Blackpool he heard the organ being played at the Tower Ballroom and from that moment on his ambitious was to play the organ at that famous venue.
This ambition was fulfilled in 1981 when he was on aged 17 and for the next two summers he was a resident organist, playing the Wurlitzer made famous by his idol, the late, great Reginald Dixon.
In 1983 he became resident organist at ‘Turner’s Musical Merry-Go-Round’ in Northampton, a position he held for 21 years before becoming music director at Wickstead Park, Kettering.
These days he can be found performing for organ societies, in churches and dance venues across the UK.
In 2001 Nick and his wife Marianne co-founded the registered charity for autistic children ‘Miracles to Believe In’ and for his tireless work for this charity he received, in 2014, the BEM.
Doors at Feltham Hall open at 1.30pm with curtain up at 2.30pm.
Admission is £10 on the door, including interval refreshments and parking.
