Great Malvern Christmas Festival

Worcester Editorial 23rd Nov, 2021

With the holiday season fast approaching, we look forward to the arrival of the Great Malvern Christmas Festival this Saturday (November 27th) 10am – 6.30pm.

The absence of this event was duly noted by everyone last year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Festivities will be taking place all over the town centre, including at Belle vue Island, Great Malvern Priory, Great Malvern Library, the Priory Church Grounds, Church Street, Abbey Road and outside the Post Office.

Expect to see artisan arts market stalls, a delicious food market (provided by Boffy Markets), local musicians performing festive songs, Morris dancing by Old Meg, festive street performers, a Christmas grotto, a Polar Bear roaming the streets, and of course the BBC Hereford and Worcester stage on Belle Vue Island, hosting festive music from 3:30pm and the Christmas light switch on with Malvern Theatres ‘Peter Pan’ pantomime stars at 6pm.

There are activities for both adults and children. Children will also have the chance to meet Santa in his grotto in the Morgan Route Master Bus in front of Belle Vue Island opposite the Post Office as well as meeting adorable retired police dogs and an animatronic Polar Bear.

The star of the show, of course, is the Christmas lights switch on with the pantomime stars. Seeing the town twinkle with streams of lights is truly a heart-warming sight and a cornerstone of the holiday season. There will even be carol singing after the lights switch on as well as other live music will be held throughout the day from the likes of  Duke’s Jazz Society, Marie McNally on the saxophone and Mike Skillbeck.

This year, the official lantern parade will not be taking place, but 100 craft lanterns and LED candles will be available to pick up prior to the event for FREE from Malvern Tourist Information Centre, Austin & Co, Iapetus and Malvern Hills Gallery, so your children can make them at home and bring them to the Christmas Festival.

It all kicks off on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Great Malvern Town Centre.
