Football rivals to clash in aid of Worcester hospice care

LOCAL football rivals are set to clash in aid of hospice care.

Hereford FC and Worcester City will play each other for the first time in 10 years in a pre-season charity game on Tuesday July 21.

The game at the M&M Edgar Street Stadium in Hereford will see hospitality proceeds and a percentage of match ticket sales split between the cities’ hospices, St Richard’s in Worcester and St Michael’s in Hereford.

Local football team Wardon Villages Tigers under 12s will represent Worcester City and St Richard’s in a guard of honour that will cheer the teams onto the pitch.

The Tigers recently took to the Malvern Hills for a 10-mile walk in support of St Richard’s and raised over £1,600 towards free hospice care in the county.

Ria Simons, corporate fundraising lead at St Richard’s, said: “We know there are many Worcester City supporters with loved ones and friends who will have benefitted from the free, compassionate care provided by St Richard’s. We hope this game is an opportunity for them to support their favourite team and their local hospice.”

It’s hoped that the match will become an annual fixture in support of the two hospices.
