FOOTBALL fever has officially kicked off at a care home in Worcester as residents welcomed a local club for an afternoon of sporting fun.
Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, hosted Worcester City Women FC for a spirited penalty shootout to join the nation in celebrating a huge summer of sport.
Each resident paired up with a team member to take part in a tournament of shootouts with one pair crowned the victors at the end of the afternoon.
Both the owner and deputy captain of Worcester Women joined the festivities to pass on their top penalty-taking tips and share some favourite memories of the beautiful game with the residents. This was followed with the presentation of a football-themed cake, squash and the all-important orange slices.
Member of the winning team and resident at Perry Manor, Eddie Awford, said: “It was nice to watch everyone take part, men and women of different abilities, especially with great weather. It reminded me of lunchtime football sessions at work and being outside with my colleagues and friends.”
Home manager Katherine Matthews added: “We had a ball welcoming the local footballers for a penalty shootout tournament with us
For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to bring different generations together to honour these special moments and bring them to life once again. Watching residents reminisce and share their favourite football stories from years gone by was truly heartwarming.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Worcester City Women for joining us and making this a day to remember. With spirits high, everyone involved proved they have plenty of goal-den skills to show off.”
