WORCESTER Warriors ran in 12 tries to demolish bottom-of-the-table Cambridge 76-10 and secure their biggest win of the season.
The trio of Roma Zheng, Will Reed and Lloyd Williams all crossed twice while Juan Gonzalez, Hallam Chapman, Tim Anstee, James Short, Louis Brown and Alfie Garside all dotted down for Warriors at Sixways Stadium.
And the result leaves Worcester second in the Champ Rugby table with just two points separating Matt Everard’s side and Coventry Rugby in fourth.
The home side scored the game’s first try on five minutes when Gonzalez intercepted a stray pass out wide and sprinted to the line as Reed kicked the first of eight conversions.
However, Cambridge responded on 19 minutes as Ben Currie strolled over and Jimmy Thompson converted to level the scores.
And the visitors stunned Warriors three minutes later as Thompson kicked a penalty to put Cambridge ahead.
Worcester reclaimed the lead on 28 minutes when Chapman latched onto the back of a driving maul.
The first half ended in a flurry of yellow cards as Warriors lost both Cam Miell, for persistent infringements, and Tim Hoyt, for a high tackle, to the sin-bin.
And visitors Cambridge had Eli Caven and Otumaka Mausia sent to the sin-bin both for deliberate knock-ons.
With both teams down to 13 players, space opened up for Anstee to power over for Worcester’s third try on the stroke of half time.
Warriors needed just a minute to cross for their bonus point try at the start of the second period as Zheng broke through a tackle out wide to score.
And Short dotted down two minutes later before Zheng scored his second try of the game on 48 minutes from Brown’s pass.
Cambridge had a third player sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle in the build up to Zheng’s second try as Currie received a yellow card.
And Brown and Gonzalez then combined to release Reed on 50 minutes as the floodgates opened.
Warriors struck again on 63 minutes when replacement scrum-half Williams touched down before Brown crossed on his return from injury five minutes later.
The home side scored a 10th try on 70 minutes as Garside collected a chipped kick and weaved his way to the line.
Warriors finished the game in style as Williams crossed for his second try on 72 minutes before Reed touched down the game’s final try one minute from time.
Worcester are next in action against Cornish Pirates on Saturday, March 28 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Mennaye Field.
