WORCESTER Warriors chairman Christopher Holland described the approval of plans to redevelop the club’s Sixways Stadium home as ‘transformative’.

Wychavon District Council have approved the application made by Warriors and Sixways owners Junction 6 Limited.

The north stand at Sixways will be expanded to increase the capacity at the ground from 11,500 to 12,750 spectators.

A new 130-room hotel, medical and sports rehabilitation centre, multi-storey car park and padel club also feature as part of the scheme.

Junction 6 Limited submitted the proposals in November 2024 which also include EV charging facilities and a replacement sports pitch.

Worcester’s executive chairman Holland said: “In November 2023, together with my small team, I began the process of restoring Worcester Warriors to professional rugby as part of a disciplined investment and operating platform focused on the recovery, stabilisation and sustainable repositioning of historic English rugby institutions.

“Our initial mission had two core objectives: competitive reinstatement of Worcester Warriors and the establishment of a financially resilient, sustainable operating model capable of supporting long-term success.

“While our return to the Champ has involved considerable complexity, the progress we have made on the pitch and as a club has been extraordinary.

“We have achieved record season ticket sales, delivered a strong first half of the season and welcomed crowds that represent nearly 50 per cent of the league’s total attendance.

“Combined with a more stable and consistent second half of the season we are firmly on course to compete for a home semi-final and to challenge for the league title.

“I am delighted to share a major milestone in helping to secure the club’s off-field strength.

“After a detailed and rigorous process lasting 431 days, planning permission has finally been granted for the development of the land to the north of Sixways Stadium.

“This represents a transformative step forward and provides the foundation for a financially sustainable future.”

Leader of Wychavon District Council, Councillor Richard Morris added: “I’m delighted for the club and the fans of Worcester Warriors that we’ve been able to support these ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the Sixways site.

“It will help ensure elite sport stays in our district while providing a boost to local businesses.”
