WORCESTER City suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Needham Market to remain winless after three matches this season.
The game’s only goal came after nine minutes as Jamie McGrath finished from close range early in the first half at Bloomfields.
And the result means Worcester sit 20th in the Southern League Premier Central table.
Needham almost broke the deadlock with the game’s first attack as McGrath curled a shot inches over the crossbar from 12-yards out.
However, the home side broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Luke Ingram drilled a ball across the face of goal which McGrath turned home from close range.
The hosts went close again soon after as Reggie Lambe fired narrowly wide from 25-yards out.
And Needham spurned a glorious chance to double their lead as Lambe dallied on the ball in the box which allowed City goalkeeper Jack Thompson to smother the ball at the forward’s feet.
The home side remained on top as Kyle Hammond also curled a free-kick from wide on the left against the crossbar.
However, Worcester almost drew level shortly before half time as Needham goalkeeper James Bradbrook denied Dan Sweeney from close range.
From the resulting corner, Kyle Belmonte fired wide after Needham failed to deal with Teddy Rowe’s low ball into the box from the right.
Needham responded with a chance at the other end as Thompson superbly tipped Kieran Morphew’s header behind for a corner.
The hosts picked up where they left off after the break as McGrath lifted a shot onto the roof of the net.
However, City went close to an equaliser late on as substitute Niall Flint saw his powerful effort blocked behind.
Worcester are next in action against Bury Town on Saturday, August 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Sixways Stadium.
