WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids claimed their first win in the One-Day Cup with a comfortable 60-run triumph against Essex.

Isaac Mohammed, Kashif Ali, Jake Libby and Ethan Brookes all registered half-centuries for the Rapids at the County Ground in Chelmsford.

And Brookes then took three wickets to help bowl Essex out for 280 after Worcestershire closed on 340-9 from their 50 overs.

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat as teenage opener Mohammed (63) impressed from the off.

Despite losing captain Brett D’Oliveira (13), Ali (80) and Libby (70) put on a 110-run third-wicket stand.

And Brookes (56) then blasted a quickfire half-century from just 25 balls which included 10 boundaries.

The home side made a solid start in reply as opener Robin Das (51) scored at a rate of just over a run-a-ball before he fell to Brookes (3-52).

And Fateh Singh (2-38) later trapped Tom Westley (43) LBW to halt the home side’s momentum.

Only Jamal Richards (34 not out) passed the 30-run mark of Essex’s remaining batters with the hosts bowled out in the 46th over.

Worcestershire are next in action against Hampshire on Wednesday, August 13 with play to begin at 11am at New Road.
