New secondary school being mooted for Worcester

A NEW secondary school is being mooted as part of plans to meet an increased demand for school places in Worcester.

At its meeting on July 17, Worcestershire County Council Cabinet will consider a report that looks at how the demand for secondary school places is increasing and the steps that may need to be taken to meet this demand.

Pupil numbers have been rising since 2017 and are expected to change over the coming years due to housing growth in and around Worcester city.

To ensure enough Year 7 places in September 2026 and 2027 for pupils attending Worcester city primary schools, the report recommends that additional places are created at Dyson Perrins C of E Academy and The Chase secondary schools in Malvern.

Cabinet will also consider options to meet longer-term demand for secondary school places, including whether to move forward with plans for a new secondary school on the Newtown Road site in Worcester. Alternative options being considered include expanding existing schools from 2029 to accommodate more pupils.
