WORCESTER City booked their place in the Northern Premier League Midlands play-off final following an impressive 2-0 victory at Anstey Nomads.

Chris Cornes’ side made the perfect start as Elliott Hartley scored inside the first minute before Zac Guinan doubled the away side’s lead at Cropston Road.

And City produced a professional second-half performance to keep Anstey at bay and secure their place in the play-off final.

Worcester will play Corby Town in the play-off final after the latter side won 1-0 against Long Eaton United in the other semi-final.

And Corby will have home advantage in the final by virtue of finishing higher in the league than Worcester.

City broke the deadlock inside 60 seconds as Hartley headed in Adam Mace’s cross at the back post from point-blank range to leave Anstey stunned.

And the visitors doubled their lead on 38 minutes when Guinan chested the ball before hooking a volley into the net with his back to goal after the home side failed to clear their lines at a set-piece.

Worcester will now play Corby in the final as City seek back-to-back promotions to Step Three.

City produced a stunning comeback to beat Corby 4-3 at Claines Lane in their penultimate home game of the season last month.

The play-off final takes place on Saturday, May 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Steel Park.
