WORCESTER City scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to beat Corby Town 4-3 and seal a play-off place in the process.

City produced a stunning late comeback at Claines Lane as Kyle Belmonte’s injury-time goal secured a top-five finish for Chris Cornes’ side.

That came after Zac Guinan’s early goal put Worcester ahead only for a Reuben Marshall brace and Fletcher Toll penalty to put Corby in command after the break.

However, Felix Miles scored a penalty of his own to reduce the deficit late on before Guinan drew City level and Belmonte won the game in injury time.

The result means Worcester sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table with one game left to play.

Worcester broke the deadlock on seven minutes when Corby failed to deal with a corner from the right and Guinan fired home on the turn from five-yards out.

And City looked for a quickfire second goal as Guinan skewed a shot wide after Nathan Hayward played in Elliott Hartley down the left.

The home side spurned another chance to double their lead when Miles controlled Adam Mace’s long ball up the pitch only to scuff a shot straight at Ross Durrant as he looked to lob the ball over the Corby goalkeeper.

Corby captain Jack Keeble then made a superb block to deny Miles a certain goal after the midfielder showed great composure to create a scoring chance for himself in the penalty area.

City remained on top as Hayden Reeves nodded a free-kick into the path of Hayward who sliced a half-volley inches wide of the post.

The visitors almost drew level at the other end when City goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe could only help a corner into the path of Keeble who blazed over from six-yards out.

Corby drew level four minutes after half time as Marshall latched onto a ball in-behind the City defence before coolly poking a shot past the onrushing Whitcombe.

And Marshall scored again six minutes later when he headed in Daniel Gordon’s free-kick from the left at the near post.

Worcester looked to respond to the setback when Miles burst into the box only for Durrant to make a fine reaction save.

However, Reeves fouled Corby substitute Gary Stohrer in the box on 76 minutes as fellow sub Toll stepped up to send Whitcombe the wrong way from the penalty spot.

City won a penalty of their own five minutes later when Durrant clattered into Miles as the pair competed for a loose ball.

And Miles dusted himself off before stepping up and sending Durrant the wrong way from the spot as he coolly placed a shot into the right corner of the goal.

Controversy reigned as Worcester drew level on 88 minutes when Durrant claimed a high ball only for Jordan Lymn to knock the ball out of the goalkeeper’s hands.

The loose ball fell perfectly into the path of Guinan who finished into an empty net as the referee allowed the goal to stand despite furious protests from Corby.

And City completed a remarkable turnaround one minute into injury time as Belmonte lashed a fierce shot into the left corner of the goal from 25-yards out to spark wild scenes of celebration.

Worcester finish the season with a home game against Loughborough Students on Saturday, April 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Claines Lane.
