WORCESTER City thrashed play-off rivals Sporting Khalsa 6-1 in a scintillating performance from Chris Cornes’ side.

Both Taylor Townsend and Kyle Belmonte scored braces while Zac Guinan and Hayden Reeves also found the net for City in a dominant victory at Claines Lane.

The result means Worcester sit third in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

City made a blistering start and broke the deadlock after just 50 seconds when Townsend found the bottom right corner from inside the penalty area.

And the home side doubled their lead on 13 minutes as Belmonte lashed an unstoppable effort into the left corner of the goal from 25-yards out.

Worcester all but sealed the points five minutes before the break when Guinan bundled a first time shot into the bottom right corner from eight-yards out.

City stretched their lead three minutes after the interval as Reeves turned home Adam Mace’s free-kick from the left from close range.

The home side made it five on 57 minutes when a long ball released Townsend and the City man slipped a shot under the body of Khalsa goalkeeper Brandon Ganley.

And Belmonte doubled his tally for the game on 69 minutes with a first time shot past Ganley from just inside the penalty area from Elliott Hartley’s square ball.

Khalsa scored a consolation goal nine minutes from time as Isai Marselia finished James McGrady’s low ball in from the left from close range.

Worcester are next in action against Worcester Raiders in the Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, February 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Sixways Stadium.
