WORCESTER City lost at home for the first time since October after conceding deep into injury time in a 3-2 defeat against Wellingborough Town.

City looked to have rescued a late point after Charlie Wise drew the home side level two minutes from time at Claines Lane.

However, Will Jones struck five minutes into injury time to snatch the points for the visitors.

That came after Jordan Lymn’s early goal put City ahead only for Jack O’Connor to equalise for Wellingborough before Jones completed the turnaround with his first of the game.

And the result means Worcester sit fourth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

The defeat brings an end to City’s six-game winning run at home while Worcester have also lost back-to-back games for the first time since October.

City went close early on as Dylan Hart sent a header from Adam Mace’s corner over the crossbar.

However, the home side broke the deadlock on 10 minutes when Lymn drove a shot through a crowd of bodies from the edge of the penalty area.

City almost doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark as Kyle Belmonte’s driven effort from the edge of the box went narrowly wide.

However, Wellingborough equalised five minutes before half time when O’Connor found the net from a corner to send the teams into the break all square.

City made a strong start to the second half as Belmonte pulled a shot wide from distance.

Moments later, Lymn headed Logan Stoddart’s cross inches over the crossbar.

However, Wellingborough completed the turnaround on 68 minutes as Jones put the visitors in front.

City thought they had rescued a point on 88 minutes when Wise headed in Mace’s corner.

And the home almost reclaimed the lead in injury time only for substitute Prince Henry to see his effort hit the crossbar.

Another chance went begging as substitute Felix Miles saw his shot from inside the penalty area saved by the legs of Wellingborough goalkeeper Ash Bodycote.

And the visitors delivered a suckerpunch five minutes into injury time as City failed to cut out a low ball in from the left and Jones coolly found the net from close range to leave the hosts stunned.

Worcester are next in action against Sporting Khalsa on Saturday, February 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Claines Lane.
