WORCESTER City saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end following a 1-0 defeat against Sutton Coldfield Town as both teams finished the game with 10-men.

A late goal from Callum Wilson put Sutton ahead before Worcester’s Liam Lockett and home player Jack Storer both saw red in injury time at Coles Lane.

The result means Worcester sit fourth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

Sutton dominated the early chances as City goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe superbly tipped Fraser Doyle’s dipping effort over the crossbar.

At the other end, Lockett’s free-kick into the box caused chaos before Charlie Wise saw his deflected effort come back off the crossbar.

The home side went close again after the break as Whitcombe made a superb stop to keep out Kory Burke’s effort from six-yards out.

City boss Chris Cornes then picked up two yellow cards in quick succession as the referee sent the Worcester manager from his technical area.

And Sutton scored the game’s only goal five minutes from time when Wilson finished from close range after Tom Hurley acrobatically diverted an initial cross from the right towards goal.

Tempers flared in the final moments with Lockett and Storer shown red cards by the referee at the death much to the bemusement of both sets of players.

Worcester are next in action against Wellingborough Town on Tuesday, February 4 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Claines Lane.
