SEVERN Stars finished their final Netball Super League season with a 72-60 defeat away at Loughborough Lightning.

The Stars still have a play-off semi-final against Manchester Thunder to look forward to in what could prove to be the club’s last-ever game.

In the last game of the regular season, Lightning confirmed a home semi-final with victory as Stars saw their six-game winning run come to an end.

The Stars found themsleves 18-15 behind after the first quarter which quickly spiralled to 39-24 at half time.

Stars made the most of their opposition’s errors, leading the stats in pickups as Jasmine Brown made herself an unmoveable wall in goal.

Brown’s performance wreaked havoc on Lightning shooter Mary Cholhok who still managed 48 goals at the Sir David Wallace Arena at the latter finished with a 76 per cent shot success rate.

Stars improved after the break, winning the third quarter 20-17 before levelling the final quarter-hour 16-16 as the visitors showed excellent determination heading into the play-offs.

Severn Stars finished the regular season in fourth, their highest ever finish in the Netball Super League, but are not part of the league’s relaunch next year.

The Stars play regular season table toppers Manchester Thunder at Belle Vue on Saturday, June 22 with the game to begin at 4pm.

The other semi-final will be contested between Loughborough and London Pulse.
