REBECCA Redfern has received an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The 24-year-old para swimmer, who swims at Worcester Swimming Club, received the award for services to young people and the community in Worcestershire.
Redfern won silver at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games at the age of just 16 – one year after joining Worcester Swimming Club.
And Redfern won a second Paralympic silver medal at Tokyo 2020, just nine months after giving birth to her son, and has also qualified for this summer’s Games in Paris.
She is also a two-time world champion after winning breaststroke gold at both the 2019 and 2022 World Championships in London and Manchester respectively.
Redfern was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at the age of seven, a condition which limits peripheral vision.
She regularly visits schools across the county with her medals to inspire youngsters and to talk about her experiences as a young girl with a disability.
Redfern heads to her third Paralympic Games this summer after winning 100m breaststroke SB13 silver at both the 2016 Rio Games and 2020 Tokyo Games.
The Droitwich swimmer is classified as a visually impaired swimmer and will hope to add to her medal collection in Paris.
The Paralympic Games take place from August 28 to September 8.
