Jay’s close shave to boost Maggs at Worcester Show

Worcester Editorial 8th Aug, 2023 Updated: 8th Aug, 2023   0

A CARING Worcester neighbourhood officer will be braving the shave to raise money for local homeless charity Maggs Day Centre.

Jay Gormley aims to raise £1,000 with the hair-raising experience at this year’s Worcester Show next weekend where visitors can even cut off a piece if they wish.

She has worked with Maggs to help support the community to source housing and has seen first-hand how the charity supports the homeless and vulnerable and gives them hope for the future.

“I recognise the massive breath of support they give people, whether it be access to a GP, clothing, help with managing their tenancy – they are vital,” she said.

“I want to spread the word and highlight the service provided, and long may it continue.”

Maggs works throughout Worcestershire and hosts two day centres in Worcester and Malvern, alongside their clothing project and properties through the accommodation project to temporarily house rough sleepers and provide them with tailored support to further their journey.

The charity also has a number of specialist teams which work with service users, including an outreach team, an intensive transition support team for complex needs and a harm reduction team

Melissa Blewitt, marketing and relations officer at Maggs, said: “We cannot thank Jay enough for choosing Maggs to receive her daring donation.

“We’re always so humbled by the support we receive from the community, and Jay’s donation will be able to help us continue to support the homeless and vulnerable throughout Worcestershire and also help to raise money for our first-ever festival, Maggstock, next year”
