Worcester City’s dismal league campaign continued to disappoint last Saturday, as they played out a tepid 0 – 0 home draw with Lichfield City.

A Game of Squandered Chances
Worcester City faced Lichfield City at Claines Lane on Saturday 18th of February.
This presented an opportunity for Worcester, Lichfield were coming in off the back of a devastating 8 – 0 loss to Highgate United, so will no doubt have been feeling psychologically vulnerable.
Unfortunately, Worcester were unable to exploit their opponent’s frailties. Chances were few and far between in a game that failed to really spark into life.
In the first half, Kyonn Evans controlled a beautiful and played it through to Dylan Hart, who had a shot blocked by a dogged Lichfield defence.
The visitors responded through Joe Haines, who delivered a whipped cross into the box but was unable to find the head of a teammate.
Taylor Randle then fired a rocket of a long-range effort which just drifted wide.
Randle was denied again in the second half, this time by a scrambling save by Lichfield keeper Beeson. Randle again tried his luck with a searing free kick which went high over the bar.
Lichfield also applied more pressure in the second half, forcing Haydn Whitcombe into two fine saves to deny the visitors.
What does this mean for Worcester City’s Season?
Worcester City currently sit 17th in the league on 25 points. Of 27 games played, they have won just seven, drawn four, and lost 16.
They are dangerously close to the relegation zone, and with some tough fixtures coming up could well see them within it sooner rather than later.
What About Promotion?
Promotion for the Blue and Whites this season isn’t a realistic aim. They are 33 points off the top spot, and with just 12 games to play the margin just isn’t there for a feasible push for the top of the table.
Avoiding Relegation
For the neutral, a relegation battle is always an exciting watch. Even in the Premier League, there is always the danger of relegation for a handful of teams.
