Wilkins capture is a big boost for Wolves

WORCESTER Wolves have continued their recruitment ahead of the new British Basketball League season with the signing of the versatile shooting guard Henry Wilkins.

Wilkins becomes the clubs tenth signing and brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played across mainland Europe, as well as three seasons in the BBL with the Surrey Scorchers.

The 6ft 5in Brit can also play at the Small Forward position and last season played in 13 games for the Scorchers.

He totalled 76 points, 24 assists and 19 rebounds. Wilkins has the ability to impact and change a game with his skill set and combined with his experience of the BBL, he is an exciting acquisition to the Wolves roster.

He will be reunited with former Scorchers team-mate Jordan Williams, who re-signed with the Wolves in August and with head coach Matt Newby from his time at Leeds Carnegie.

Wolves head coach Newby is very pleased with his latest signing to the roster.

“Signing Henry is a major boost and adds more depth to the roster. He is a very intelligent player who complements our perimeter and will bring a competitive edge on a daily basis. He has a well-rounded skill-set and will bring a cool head and impact our play at both ends of the floor.

“I have obviously coached him before and the three seasons he was with Leeds Carnegie where he contributed to highly a successful programme.

“With international stops in Denmark, Spain and Austria, he has grown as a player and his most recent stints at Surrey would see him take more responsibility as leader and some extent had a veteran role.

“In a way things have come full circle and I look forward to him enhancing our environment, culture and seeing significant outputs on game night,” he added.

Wilkins is excited to have the opportunity to play for the Wolves and enter his fourth season in Britain’s premier basketball league.

“I’m super excited to be joining the Worcester Wolves this season. I look forward to building on the team’s success of last season and being part of the winning culture at this historic club.

“I can’t wait to meet the fans and get the season under way. Let’s go Wolfpack!”

Subject to the ongoing Coronavirus restrictions, BBL chiefs hope clubs will return to action in October in the opening rounds of the BBL Cup competition before a league programme begins in mid-November.
