Scully will return to homeland

Worcester Editorial 5th Feb, 2020   0

WARRIORS fly-half Luke Scully is to join Guinness Pro-14 team Cardiff Blues for the 2020/21 season.

Scully, who made his Wales Under-20s debut against Italy in Colwyn Bay last week, joined the Three Pears Warriors Academy from Neath Port Talbot College in the summer of 2018 and has impressed playing for Cavaliers in the Premiership Rugby Shield this season.

But, as a non-English qualified player (EQP), Scully has struggled for first team opportunities and he has now decided to return to Wales.

“We are extremely sorry to see Luke go, however him not being an English qualified player was severely restricting his game time within the senior squad,” said Mike Hall, Warriors’ Academy Manager.

“He would have been involved in several of the recent European Challenge Cup games, but his lack of EQP status meant he missed out.

“For Luke to develop he needs to be gaining these opportunities to move his game forward. We are therefore delighted that he has managed to secure a deal with Cardiff Blues which will help him to gain this exposure.

“All of the staff and players here at Warriors will watch his career progression with great interest.

“We cannot speak highly enough of Luke as a character and team member. He has been absolutely first-class in every aspect of his approach to being a part of the Warriors’ family,” he added.

The move will see Scully link up with former Warrior and Welsh wing wizard Josh Adams who made the move back to his homeland at the end of last season.

Warriors return to action in the Gallagher Premiership a week on Saturday (3pm) with the visit of Bath to Sixways.
