WARRIORS will commemorate and celebrate the work of Britain’s armed forces when high-flying Exeter Chiefs visit Sixways on Sunday (3pm).

The Armed Forces Day will also include Warriors’ annual Remembrance Service when all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on active service will be honoured.

Serving servicemen, women and veterans from local regiments will parade on the Sixways pitch whilst a drumhead is formed on the centre circle.

Drumhead services were often conducted near the battlefront where the military command used its drums, piled neatly and draped them with appropriate colours, to create a makeshift altar.

David Waldron, county chairman of the Worcestershire branch of the Royal British Legion, will recite the Act of Remembrance before the minute’s silence.

Alan Solomons’ men go into the clash with last year’s Premiership runners-up on the back of a 35-16 defeat to Northampton Saints on Saturday.

Warriors were sunk by a fusillade of late tries from Northampton in a match of two distinct halves which was shaped by miserable weather.

Warriors were ahead at half-time through three Duncan Weir penalties and still very much in contention with ten minutes to go. With the wind at his back in the first half Weir struck twice in the first 11 minutes, the second from 40 metres out.

But Northampton eventually managed to unleash their dangerous backs and ran in three tries in a six-minute purple patch during which time they secured the bonus point.

Warriors scored a late try through Francois Venter, on his seasonal debut, but it came too late to change the result or salvage a losing bonus point.

Warriors lost scrum-half Francois Hougaard with a shoulder injury early in the second half and his iinjury will be assessed by Warriors’ medical staff this week.
