CELEBRATIONS were held at Nunnery Wood High School after National Citizen Service (NCS) bosses honoured students with the ‘Champion School Award’

The Spetchley Road school was rewarded for its continued work to provide students with opportunities to develop personal and social skills by completing the NCS programme.

Jack Ritchie and Jack Ingleby-Lewis from NCS were on hand to present headteacher Stephen Powell with the Bronze Champion School status plaque and certificate during an assembly for year 11 students.

The National Citizen Service is a voluntary, personal and social development programme for 15 to 17-year-olds in England and Northern Ireland, funded largely by money from the Government.

NCS is a four-phase programme specifically designed to provide young people with all sorts of new experiences.

From daredevils to creative geniuses, talkative or more reserved teenagers, the NCS offers something for young people across the country.

As well as giving them a host of new skills and bags of confidence, work on the scheme boosts students UCAS statements for university and CV’s as they prepared to enter the world of work.

“Nunnery is proud of the many students who have taken up the chance of working with the National Citizen Service over the past few years,” said Mr Powell.

“We are hoping for record recruitment numbers from our current Year 11.

“The organisation’s ambitions and values are fully in line with Nunnery’s own vision for our students.”
