City’s High Street makes shortlist

Worcester Editorial 29th Sep, 2018   0

WORCESTER MP Robin Walker has welcomed the the news the city’s bustling High Street has made the shortlist of the Great British High Street Awards.

Out of 240 entries from across the UK, Worcester High Street has made it down to the final 26 in the ‘Champion’ category which recognises the nation’s best high street.

Having got through to the final shortlist, Worcester is now one step closer to a chance to win up to £10,000 to spend in the community, and will receive on-the-ground support and events from the campaign street teams.

The final winner will be determined by a combination of judges’ scores and social media voting – the latter being weighted by the size of the town or city. Robin is encouraging as many people as possible to vote on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #GBHSWorcester.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for our High Street to have successfully fought off such stiff competition to make the final shortlist and I’d like to thank everyone in Worcester who made this possible,” Mr Walker said.

“In particular I would like to congratulate the Worcester BID for their stellar work, having been the driving force behind this campaign and many other schemes to brighten our city’s streets and make us an even more attractive destination for visitors, including their valuable support for this summer’s Worcester Stands Tall sculpture trail.”

“I would encourage as many people as possible to support Worcester in these awards by using the #GBHSWorcester hashtag on social media to help get our great city over the finishing line.”
