WORCESTER youngster Amy Pullen proved successful in her first-ever black belt grading.
The 12-year-old has trained with Worcestershire Martial Arts – the umbrella name for Droitwich and Worcester Taekwon-Do – since the age of six and received her first dan black belt at the International Taekwon-Do Federation grading event in Cambridge.
WMA instructor Sally Gleaves, who has spent 22 years in the sport, was promoted to fifth dan black belt.
The black belts were presented by the Mayor of Worcester, Coun Jabba Riaz.
“The grading was pretty intense and we well and truly earned our grades through commitment and hard work,” said Gleaves.
“Amy is a very dedicated student and trained hard.
“She even has volunteered at our children’s classes and taught ten hours of main classes in the months leading up to the grading.
“She was also required to submit two essays around the topic of taekwon-do and why she felt she deserved her black belt.
“We both achieved our grades with well above average marks too.”
WMA, who are based on Shrub Hill Road, are accepting beginners for their kickboxing and taekwon-do classes.
