City playing for pride despite fine victory

A TRIP to South Normanton Athletic awaits Worcester City on Saturday after the Blue and Whites’ faint promotion hopes disappeared despite Saturday’s 3-0 win at Quorn.

Wins for Coleshill and Highgate United on Monday night mean City now cannot catch their promotion rivals and a further season in the Midland Football League Premier Division beckons.

City go into the rearranged clash on the back of an impressive victory against a Quorn side who have shipped 11 goals to City this season following September’s 8-0 thrashing at the Victoria Ground.

Hot-shot Dave Reynolds was on hand to notch the first goal on 13 minutes as he fired home after good work on the left from the impressive Alex Tomkinson.

A strike from Mat Birley was saved, whilst at the other end a corner caused problems as Mark Brennan fired over with City keeper Adam Przybek out of position.

Quorn’s efforts for an equaliser came to nothing before City made it 2-0 when James Baldwin and Tomkinson linked up to carve out a chance for Reynolds who made no mistake.

After George Forsyth headed just over from a corner, City made it 3-0 with just under 20 minutes to go when Birley looked to play in Baldwin but, as the keeper cleared, the ball fell at the feet of Nick Turton who lifted the ball home from 30 yards.
