Warriors ready to utilise every player for double-header

WARRIORS backs coach Sam Vesty has revealed the upcoming Anglo-Welsh Cup games will see all members of the squad, including new signing Anton Bresler, given some game time.

Worcester welcome current Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs to Sixways on Saturday (kick off 3pm) before a trip to South Wales to tackle the Dragons next Friday.

With the European pool stages now over, Aviva Premiership Rugby sides will turn their attentions to the Anglo-Welsh Cup and while Warriors have little hope of progressing, Vesty insisted the clashes were an ideal chance to get into form.

“Exeter will be looking to put their brand of rugby on the pitch,” he said.

“But our focus will be on our own performance and if we can get that right we’re capable of beating them.

The Sixways side will need to recover from their heartbreaking elimination from the European Challenge Cup when their fixture at Brive was played five hours after it had been due to kick off.

Heavy rain in France meant the clash was moved to nearby Tulle.

Warriors kicked off knowing two points would have secured a quarter-final place but a 31-7 defeat ended their hopes.

Despite the elimination, Vesty said there were reasons to be encouraged.

“We played some nice rugby in the European Challenge Cup but we let some games slip which cost us our place in the quarter-finals,” he added.

Warriors resume their league campaign and begin the final lap of the season with a trip to the Chiefs in a fortnight in what will be director of rugby Alan Solomans’ second league game in sole charge.

“Bringing in Alan as director of rugby has been a smooth transition and he’s delivered us some stability,” Vesty said.

Warriors have been dealt injury blows with Pierce Phillips out for six to 10 weeks with an ankle injury and Perry Humphreys missing for a similar period with an knee injury.

Meanwhile, Michael Dowsett is certain to miss the resumption of Warriors’ league campaign as he battles back from a hand injury.
