Opening run was ‘tough for fans’ admits Mills

CENTRE Ryan Mills admitted Warriors’ poor start to the Aviva Premiership was difficult for fans to watch.

The versatile back acknowledged the Sixways outfit’s run of seven successive defeats made for poor viewing and accepts his side were ‘throwing games away’.

But the 25-year-old insisted the side never turned up to any of those games just to make up the numbers and have given their all in every match.

The Exeter-born centre is now confident the club’s recent success will continue.

“Things are starting to click so you just want to keep playing as much as possible,” said Mills.

“We let them (the fans) down in the first seven games of the season. It’s been difficult for them to keep coming back and watching as we weren’t clicking like we are now. We were throwing games away.

“We understand it’s been difficult to watch but not for one of those games was there a lack of effort from anyone. We obviously want to win just as much, if not more than anyone else. We never go somewhere just to make up the numbers.

“We’ve spoke about looking up the league and we know if we can climb away from the bottom anything is game on.

Mills admitted recent victories over Northampton Saints and the historic victory at Welford Road against the Leicester Tigers had raised confidence in the Sixways dressing room.

“It’s a ridiculously tough league where anyone can beat anyone on their day. We’ve shown that,” he said.

“It’s not just the players who got out there at the weekend, it’s the whole environment.

“We’re trying to make this a better place. The ultimate goal for me is to help move this club forward rather than just surviving every year in tenth or eleventh.”
