Shab and Danksy back in City ranks

FANS FAVOURITE Shabir Khan has completed a deal to return to Worcester City as kick-off for the new campaign draws closer.

The defender needs no introduction to the City faithful having played more than 180 times for the club since 2004.

In 2009 he was called up to the Pakistan national team where he scored against Bhutan.

Joint manager John Snape told the club’s website: “I am looking forward to working again with Shab. He brings a wealth of experience and could be instrumental for the coming season.”

Another former face has pledged himself to the Blue and Whites for their Midland Football League Premier Division debut as Mark Danks returned to the club.

Affectonately known as ‘Danksy’ by the faithful, he enjoyed two previous spells in the Blue and White.

He returns to Worcester in good form having netted three goals in four games in pre-season for Boldmere St Michaels.

Joint bosses Snape and Lee Hughes made a seven-day approach for his services but Boldmere waived the request to ensure talks took place straight away.

Snape said: “Discussions were made easy by Mark’s willingness to come back to a club which is in his heart.”

Young striker Aaron Brett completed the hat-trick of signings when he signed the required forms to play for the club in all competitions during the 2017/18 season.

Known to many as ‘Bam Bam’, Brett has netted five times in two pre-season games.

After his hat-trick in the 7-0 demolition of Pershore Town, he scored twice as City marked their return to Worcester with a 4-0 win over the Worcester Raiders at Claines Lane.

  • City beat Sutton Coldfield Town 4-0 at the Victoria Ground in their latest pre-season friendly on Tuesday

The Blue and Whites went into the game on the back of a semi-final defeat in the Worcestershire Senior Cup to Evesham United.

City went down 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

City visit Halesowen Town on Saturday in their final friendly before the season starts with an FA Cup tie away to Daventry Town on August 5.
