Snape: City have got plenty of belief

CITY caretaker boss John Snape has delivered a rallying call to his Worcester City side and the Blue and White faithful in a bid to deliver a ‘fairytale’ end to the season.

City kick off their final five games with the visit of mid-table Curzon Ashton to the Victoria Ground on Saturday, knowing three points would be a huge boost in their bid to avoid the drop from the National League North.

Three of City’s final five fixtures are at home, but the last four matches will be against sides challenging for promotion.

Snape’s men face a final day trip to championship favourites AFC Fylde but despite the run-in the caretaker-boss is relishing the challenges ahead.

“If we can get some fantastic support at home we can hopefully deliver a fairytale end to the season with some fantastic performances and hopefully some good results,” said Smape.

“The will and the belief is still there to stay up. If we give it our all like we have been doing in recent weeks I think we have enough in the dressing room.”

Snape believes the fight to avoid the drop will go down to the last game and urged his side to keep their fate in their own hands.

City currently lie 19th in National League North, two points ahead of Gainsborough Trinity in the final relegation place and with a significantly better goal difference than the Lincolnshire outfit.

The gap could have been more but City wasted the chance to pull away from danger with a narrow 1-0 reverse at AFC Telford United last Saturday.

Following the much-needed win at Stalybridge Celtic in their previous outing, City arrived at the New Bucks Head having already recorded a 3-1 win in the FA Cup second qualifying round replay earlier this season.

But in a game devoid of much quality, it took until deep in to the second half for any breakthrough and it came the way of the hosts.

A mix-up at the back allowed John Marsden with time and space to pick his spot and drill the ball underneath Graham Hutchison and keeper Nathan Vaughan in the 82nd minute.

Minutes later, Jordan Keane glanced a header inches over the Telford bar but City were denied a point.

Speaking after the game, Snape said he was disappointed with the result but not with the performance.

“Our final ball could have been better but I think the ball went in the box enough for a goal,” he said.

“Stupid goals that we have given away has been the story of our season and definitely cost us again at Telford.”
