Worcester Editorial 27th Jul, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER Valkyries will take on Richmond, Aylesford Bulls and Darlington Mowden Park Sharks in Pool One of the Women’s Premiership Sevens.

The club will take part in the eight-team competition at Broadstreet Rugby Club in Coventry on Sunday, August 7, with the two finalists playing the series decider at the Ricoh Arena.

Fans with tickets to watch the men’s Singha Premiership Rugby Sevens final on the same day, will also get a glimpse of the country’s best female players in the landmark move.

Heidi Chapman-Mercer, vice-chairman of the Women’s Premiership Group, said: “For women’s rugby in general, the fact that such a large national organisation like Premiership Rugby wants us to get involved is fantastic.

“Women’s rugby is very successful. England Women won the World Cup in 2014.

“For many of the players it will be a completely new experience and most will never have played with so many people watching. Though it’ll probably be a bit daunting, it’s a very exciting development.”

The women’s final will kick-off at 5.20pm.
