PEARS vice-captain Joe Leach says Worcestershire can look forward to a ‘very successful year’ in the Specsavers County Championship and the NatWest T20 Blast if they maintain their current form.
Leach returned career-best bowling figures in the T20 Blast of five for 33 as the Rapids triumphed by 38 runs against Durham Jets on Friday night.
And the popular bowler notched up 9-109 in the match as the Worcestershire recorded their first County Championship win of the season with a seven wicket triumph over Leicestershire on Tuesday.
“We’ve played pretty good cricket in the Championship. If you look at the bonus points, we are the highest scoring side and that is with a wash-out,” he said.
“We just need a bit of luck, that’s all it is, and if we keep playing the way we are across both formats, we will have a very successful year. We are also a proper T20 side.”
Skipper Daryl Mitchell echoed his paceman’s words.
“We have to be realistic and realise we have lost a lot of overs due to the poor weather.
“There are still 11 games to go and there haven’t been many wins all round, but if we keep putting in the effort the results will come. They are all big games because it’s a very tight league with not many points between teams at the top and the bottom.
“There is a lot of cricket to be played and we will be trying to pick up as many points as we can.”
