WORCESTER City brought the curtain down on their Vanarama National League North season with a creditable 2-2 draw against AFC Fylde.

Last Saturday’s game also saw City wave goodbye to Aggborough after a three-year groundshare agreement with Kidderminster Harriers.

City were without Wayne Thomas for the clash through suspension after his red card at Bradford Park Avenue. And the prospects for a pleasing end to an up-and-down campaign looked bleak when a brace from Fylde’s Danny Rowe had the visitors 2-0 at the break.

But second-half goals from Daniel Nti and Lee Hughes meant City clawed back a point and they almost sealed all three with a number of late chances.

Deon Burton also received a standing ovation when he was substituted with the former Jamaica international having announced his retirement before the match.

The game was the first home clash without joint boss Matt Gardiner, who was formally unveiled as head of coaching at Harriers this week.

After the game, City manager Carl Heeley confirmed he would remain in sole charge having been asssisted by coach John Snape for the final two games of the campaign.

Afterwards, the club held their annual end-of-season awards which saw Lee Hughes named player of the season.

Tom Sharpe won the Manager’s Player of the Year while Sam Minihan scooped the Players Player Of The Year and Young Player of the Year awards. Alex Gudger won Sponsors’ Player Of The Season while Connor Gater scooped Goal of the Season.

Off the pitch, Rob Bazley was named clubman of the year while Jed Hallam was honoured as supporter of the year.
