Symons reflects on 'special' season

EXPERIENCED centre Andy Symons admits it was a proud moment when he made his 50th appearance for the club against Leicester Tigers in his penultimate match.

The former Tigers player, who arrived at Sixways in November 2013, will be moving to London Irish this summer, but is glad he could contribute to Warriors’ end-of-season efforts, scoring a try in the club’s last three games.

With Symons’ final game in a Warriors jersey coming on Saturday against title-chasing Saracens at Sixways, the 24-year-old wants the team to end the campaign on a high.

“I’ve had an amazing time at Warriors and I’m very grateful to the coaches and players who have got me to this point,” Symons said.

“It was a hugely proud moment reaching 50 appearances for the club, but it’s all internal motivation now. It’s all about making everyone around you proud and putting everything into the jersey.

“We won’t just roll over. We’ll be looking to gain some pride and step-up to one of the best sides in the league.

“I’m excited to finish things on a high and hopefully we can end the season strongly against Sarries.”

The Harlow-born player, who has accumulated 178 points and nine tries during his time at Warriors, also paid tribute to the staff he has worked alongside during the last three campaigns.

“Credit goes to the club for looking after me and getting me back to full fitness last summer, as thankfully, I haven’t missed too much of this season,” he added.

“There are a lot of good staff here and I’ve made some great memories. My debut in Cardiff in 2013, scoring a try against my former club Leicester and my full Aviva Premiership debut against Saracens were all fantastic moments in my first season.

“But being involved in the journey of gaining promotion from the Championship and getting the club back to where it belongs was very special. It’s something I’ll never forget.”
