Moeen boost for Pears

MOEEN Ali has been given the green light to take to the field for Worcestershire in three early-season Specsavers County Championship matches.

The England all-rounder has been part of the side which came so close to winning the ICC World T20 in India before narrowly losing the final to the West Indies.

But now Moeen’s focus will be on red ball cricket ahead of the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka which begins on May 19 at Headingley.

The 28-year-old will be given a short break from action and is not available for Worcestershire’s Championship opener against Kent at New Road which starts on Sunday.

However, Moeen will be available for selection for the games against Gloucestershire at Bristol from April 24 to 27, Essex’s visit to New Road from May 1 to 4 and the trip to Glamorgan at the Swalec Stadium from May 8 to 11.

The Essex game will also see England Test captain Alistair Cook in action for Essex as batsmen look for early-season runs before the Test Match summer begins.

The opening match against Sri Lanka will bring back happy memories for Moeen as he scored his first Test century against them at Headingley two years ago when the Three Lions came within one delivery of saving the match.
