Warriors ready for the next challenges

Head coach Carl Hogg believes his players are physically and mentally ready for the block of Premiership fixtures ahead after Warriors’ European adventure came to an end last week.

Warriors head into a stretch of ten Aviva Premiership matches, starting this Sunday (January 31) with a home clash against Exeter Chiefs.

The squad won’t get a week off until the return fixture has been played on Saturday, April 2.

With players like Andy Short and GJ van Velze returning from injury during the recent two-week window for European games, the squad is looking healthier, and Hogg is happy the short break has given the team time to prepare themselves for the tough schedule ahead.

“We have a big challenge next against Exeter Chiefs and then London Irish are just around the corner,” said the former Melrose, Edinburgh and Scotland back row.

“The Premiership is a marathon, which is physically and mentally demanding and it comes down to managing your squad sensibly.

“We’re trying to get a balance across the group so we can reintegrate some players and allow opportunities for others. I think there’s a huge amount of endeavour in this squad and the energy is fantastic.

“We’re running fairly healthy now compared to before this short break.

“I think having some time away from rugby over the last two weeks to freshen up has had a positive impact on the players, as we springboard ourselves into the block of matches,” he added.

Warriors’ game with Exeter kicks off at 3pm.
