Lancaster must go says Ryan

WARRIORS’ director of rugby Dean Ryan says there is ‘no doubt’ Stuart Lancaster will step down as England head coach after crashing out of the Rugby World Cup.

Lancaster’s position has come under threat after England became the first hosts ever to be knocked out in the pool stage following defeats to Wales and Australia.

Former England international Ryan believed ‘muddled selection’ from Lancaster did not help his cause and he felt the 45-year-old had no option but to leave the role.

“I have no doubt that Lancaster will go,” he said. “It depends on the clauses in his contract in reality, but I think he probably will go and I think he has to.”

However, speaking to the BBC, the Warriors boss has called on RFU bosses to change the way they select a new man to be at the helm.

“We need to look at who is making the appointment. Whoever Ian Ritchie and Rob Andrew asked for advice, they got it wrong,” Ryan said.

“So why are we going to allow them to make the next appointment?

“We have to look at the whole process before we move on.”
