City miss out on Giant-Killers award

A MEMORABLE 2-1 success for Worcester City over Coventry City wasn’t enough to scoop a prestigious FA award.

The Blue and Whites historic FA Cup first round win over the 1987 winners had put them in the running to secure the Ronnie Radford FA Cup Giant-Killers Award.

Sean Geddes bagged a brace, and Nathan Vaughan kept out a Reda Johnson penalty, for the Conference North outfit on November 9 to upset all the odds at the Ricoh Arena.

But Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner’s side missed out on the accolade, as the Football Association opted for Bradford City’s stunning 4-2 victory over Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Bantams came from 2-0 down against Jose Mourinho’s men to stage the most unlikely of comebacks and gain their passage into the fifth round.

Sheffield United – who beat QPR 3-0 at Loftus Road – were the other side in the running.

Previous winners include Luton Town, Swindon Town and Crawley Town.
