A MAN who assaulted his girlfriend’s grandmother has been ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

Nathan Collins, of Tallow Hill, pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court last Friday (March 27) to assaulting Denise Taylor.

Owen Beale, prosecuting, told the court Ms Taylor was in Worcester city centre on Tuesday, March 10 with her granddaughter who is in a relationship with Collins and had arranged to meet him that evening.

He said: “She does not approve of him and on this occasion an argument started between the lady and the defendant.

“The verbal argument moved into a pub, it continued and it came to conclusion went he pushed her and she fell backwards on to the floor, where she laid until she was helped to her feet.”

Defence solicitor Belinda Arris said Collins’ girlfriend, who was in court, fully supported him. She added the 18-year-old was hugging his girlfriend when her grandmother tried to separate them.

“She was in his face being abusive, she was trying to grab his arms, then he pushed her away,” she added.

“He appreciates that as a result of his push, she fell.”

District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “This was an unfortunate incident. It’s just not the way to go about having an argument with someone who just does not like you. To push someone of 66 years of age to the ground is not the way to go about it.

“You will now have to put something back into the community as punishment for what you have done.”

He ordered Collins to pay £100 compensation to Ms Taylor and £60 victim surcharge.
