Taylor relishing intense Wembley final

WORCESTER Wolves star man Zaire Taylor has said his BBL Player of the Year award will mean nothing if the club fail to win the BBL Playoffs this weekend.

Wolves face BBL champions Newcastle Eagles on Sunday (tip-off 3pm) in British Basketball’s end-of-season showcase event at Wembley Arena in a bid to win their second major title of the season.

Wolves, who won their first BBL silverware earlier this year when they were crowned BBL Trophy winners, sealed a place in the Playoffs final after an impressive two-leg victory over the Sheffield Sharks last weekend.

And Taylor, who was awarded British Basketball’s best player after an impressive first year at the University of Worcester Arena, said facing the league champions for glory will prove a fascinating challenge.

“It will be intense, playing against the team that won the league. They’ve beaten us twice this season, we’ve beaten them twice. Step one was getting to the final, step two will be taking care of business in the final.

“Winning the MVP award is a blessing, but basketball is about a team of players. The award won’t mean that much to me if we don’t win on Sunday.”

And Taylor has called on the club’s loyal fans to cheer the team on one last time before the their most successful season comes to a close.

“They’ve been superb all year,” he added.

“We want busloads of fans down at Wembley. I want it to feel like we’re playing at Worcester Arena.”

Wolves director of basketball Paul James said: “It’s unbelievable to be going to Wembley and I’m thrilled for everyone involved with the club that we have made it through to another final.

“It’s going to be one hell of a game. You will now be seeing arguably the two best teams in the league going against each other, and that’s how it should be.”
