Lamb looking to bring success to Sixways

FRUSTRATED fly half Ryan Lamb says he is looking to be at Worcester Warriors for the “long haul” as he aims to settle down and bring success to Sixways.

The 27-year-old arrived at Warriors last week following a disappointing spell at Leicester Tigers where he had signed a two-year deal last summer.

Lamb said he was hoping to battle it out with Toby Flood for the number ten jersey at Welford Road, but after sustaining a broken hand during a fight in an A League game his opportunities dried up.

And when director of rugby Dean Ryan expressed an interest last month, the former England Saxons stand-off said he was determined to complete the move as he looks for a fresh start and a new challenge.

“I did have ambitions at Leicester and it started pretty well before I broke my hand, but I am not going to cry over spilt milk,” Lamb said.

“I am looking forward now and coming to a place like this gives you a lift. Worcester has probably got some of the best facilities in the Premiership and they’ve got a big fan base. They just need to sort things out on the pitch and if they do that then you’ll have a massive club on your hands.”

Since his days at Gloucester where he worked with Ryan and Worcester head coach Carl Hogg, the talented back has played at London Irish, Northampton Saints and Leicester in the last five year.

But Cheltenham-based Lamb insisted he was keen to build a future at Warriors, while also helping to guide them to safety this season.

“I am still only 27, so I am not coming to the end of my career,” Lamb said. “I am happy to be here for the long haul as I have a good four or five years left in me to play top rugby, so hopefully I can bring this club on as much as I can.

“It is a lot different to what I am used to as I am used to fighting for play-off spots, but I kind of see it as a better challenge to try and stay up.

“They did not get off to a good start which has made things hard, but they can take positives out of a couple of performances this season and they have shown they can compete physically now.

“It is not all doom and gloom and we should be quite confident.”
