CITY shoppers can keep their pounds in their pockets this Christmas after the city council launched its free festive parking.
Santa Claus parked up his sleigh in The Hive car park on Monday (November 25) to promote the fact motorists can now park without charge on Thursdays from 6pm when the shops are open later. The promotion, which applies to all city council car parks, will run until Thursday, December 26.
On Sundays, until December 22, people can pay for two hours parking and get the rest of the day for free.
Coun Geoff Williams, cabinet member for economic prosperity, said: “We have car parks which are convenient for all the shops and attractions in our great city.
“Our special festive car parking offer makes it easier for people to shop for something unique in our huge array of independent outlets, or stay and have a meal in town.”
The day was also used to promote the safety and quality of the city’s car parks after several received commendations from the British Parking Association.
“Worcester’s car parks are some of the safest in the country, and this is reflected in the fact there is virtually no recorded crime in them,” Mike Stephenson, crime prevention design advisor at West Mercia Police, said.
“This is a testament to the continuous partnership between the City Council and the Police to create these safe environments.”
Fourteen of Worcester’s city centre car parks have now been awarded the prestigious Park Mark® Safer Parking Award.
