Williams 'absolutely loving' life at City

RISING star George Williams has admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to play full-time football, but insisted he is in no rush as he is ‘absolutely loving’ life at Worcester City.

The talented defender has once more caught the eye having played in all but one of his side’s 25 games this season and has been instrumental in their current 14-game unbeaten run.

An FA Cup win at Coventry City and draw at Scunthorpe United has raised the profile of all City’s players, but last season’s players’ player and supporters’ player of the year seems destined for bigger things.

When asked whether he would consider playing at a higher level, he said: “That’s the dream.

“To go into full-time football would be fantastic. We’ve got a young team and I think a lot of the lads can go on but at the minute we are just enjoying our football here.

“I am absolutely loving it, we have got a great run, a great team, the changing room is buzzing and hopefully one day I can push on, but at the minute it is going really well.

“Teams always attract interest if they are winning.

“We are winning in the league, we have got a really good cup run, we are still in the FA Trophy, so this winning atmosphere is going to attract a lot of attention and it can only be a good thing for the squad if we can keep this going.”

It is a stark contrast from that of 12 months ago, when the Blue and Whites were scrapping at the bottom end of Conference North, adjusting to life in exile and struggling to field the same XI every week.

“It’s a massive change from last season when we were struggling right down the bottom,” Williams added.

“We are now in and around the play-off places and there is a real buzz around the place.

“Last season the vibe in the changing room was completely different. But this season we’ve got a good mixture, we have got young lads, experienced lads, local lads and lads travelling from all around the country.

“It is football I guess, a few additions in the summer – some experienced lads have really helped us out – it is a big change but we are doing well.”

Elsewhere, if Worcester City overcome FC Halifax Town in their FA Trophy game, they will face Alfreton at Aggborough.
