FORMER Worcester Warriors fly half Paul Warwick will make his first steps into a coaching career this season after agreeing to join the club’s backroom staff.

The 33-year-old was forced to retire from professional rugby at the end of last season after picking up a neck injury in the warm up to Warriors’ clash against Saracens in May.

But Warwick, who has made 20 appearances for the club, has decided to remain at Sixways and support Worcester’s coaching staff.

Warwick, who has also played for Munster and Stade Francais, will work with first-team and academy players at the club and he said he was relishing his new role.

“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with this season’s playing squad alongside an array of experienced coaches,” Warwick said.

“I will be aiming to pass on my rugby knowledge to the current players, while learning my trade as a coach as part of the backroom team.”

Director of rugby Dean Ryan added: “Paul has enjoyed a distinguished career in professional rugby and he will now focus his attentions on working with current players and supporting our coaching staff to impart the knowledge he has built-up.”
