Tom gallops to three awards

WORCESTER trainer Tom Weston secured the lion’s share of the prizes at the annual West Midlands point-to-point awards.

Weston was named leading trainer and leading rider, while Thoonavolla, a rising star in Weston’s Hindlip stable, took the novice horse trophy.

The seven-year-old, owned by the Troubled Partnership, headed by Tom’s father Martin, finished runner-up in the leading horse category but gained compensation by winning the novice horse award from Umoristic, Sir Ollar and Stonefield.

To crown a very successful season for the yard, Tom’s sister Charlotte was presented with the award for the leading groom.

Some 160 people flocked to Worcester Racecourse for the event with the presentations made by David Simpson.

Weston had to see off the sustained challenge from Mark Wall, who had won the title for the previous five years to become the leading rider.
