Taylor relishing England chance

TALENTED teenager Huw Taylor is set to get his chance to shine on the international stage after being named in this season’s England u20s squad.

The 18-year-old back row, who has started in Worcester Warriors’ last two British & Irish Cup fixtures, is part of a 32-man group, who will compete in the Six Nations Championship which starts in February.

His selection comes after a series of impressive displays for Worcester Cavaliers who have won four games on the bounce in the Aviva A League.

Taylor said he was “over the moon” to get the call up as it means he would be contention to play in the IRB Junior World Championship trophy next June.

“It is an exciting opportunity and it will allow me to push myself in an international environment alongside the best young players in the country,” he said.

“I feel my game has developed a lot this season thanks to all the support of the club’s backroom staff and I will be continuing to work hard to progress further.”

A total of 22 u20 graduates have gone to be capped at Test level and coach Jon Callard said he was relishing the opportunity to see his new-look group showcase their talent.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved with English rugby and we are all looking forward to working with the players in the squad,” Callard said.

“We have a good blend of guys with experience from last season and new talent emerging from across the player pathway.

“There is always huge competition at this age grade and with a lot of players getting first team rugby at their clubs it’s tough to narrow that down to a group of 32. We expect players to continue to push for inclusion.”
