NUMBER eight Jake Saddington scored two tries as Worcester Wanderers returned to winning ways in Midlands One West with a 26-19 victory at Walsall.
Worcester’s defeat to Hereford two weeks ago ended a run of six straight wins, but they took little time to get their promotion bid back on track.
Walsall did cross the whitewash first on Saturday, but Saddington’s brace gave Wanderers a four-point lead at half time.
The hosts were also boosted by the performance of Olly Meadows from the tee as he landed his kicks when called upon.
Walsall kept the scoreline close in the second half, but three penalties from Meadows steered Wanderers to victory.
WORCESTER Ladies made a scintillating start to their Senior Cup campaign as they ran in 12 tries to hammer Trojans 72-0 on Sunday.
The visitors fielded 11 second team players, but it was a familiar face who struck first as stalwart Rochelle Clark powered over to open her side’s account.
This opened the floodgates as Worcester racked up a number of tries. Kelly Smith was the pick off the scorers as she scored a hat-trick, while Lisa Campball bagged a brace.
There were also tries for Kelly Shields, Ceri Large, Rhiannon Watkins, Megan Goddard, Samantha Parker and Nikitta Flynn.
Trojans fought hard throughout, but Worcester proved too good on the day as Lizzie Binks, débutante Flynn and Rhi Parker all produced superb displays.
WARRIORS wing Josh Drauniniu scored a brace for the Barbarians as they defeated the Combined Services 31-15 last week.
The 29-year-old’s two tries came in a nine-minute spell in the second half to effectively decide the contest which was held to mark Remembrance Day.
Worcester flanker Mat Gilbert also featured for the Baa Baas and Drauniniu, who had previously played for the Combined Services, said it was great to be involved in the match.
“I knew almost everyone in the Combined Services team, so I actually wondered for a second whether I should be going to the other changing room,” he said.
“But it was a privilege and an honour to represent the Baa Baas, especially with it being Remembrance Day.”
