WARRIORS head physiotherapist Mike Lancaster will join the England Saxons medical team for their two-match series against South Africa A this month.

Lancaster, who joined the Sixways outfit in 2006 and has overseen the club’s medical department for the past four seasons, will be part of the four-person medical team for the England Saxons’ clashes against the Springboks this Friday in Bloemfontein and on Friday, June 17 in George.

The match will see South Africa A play for the first time since 2003, while the Saxons will play their first match since defeating Ireland Wolfhounds in January 2015. It will be Lancaster’s second international tour, having been away with England when they travelled to Argentina in 2013.

“It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to be part of the England Saxons medical team and it’s something I’m looking forward to,” Lancaster said.

“I’d like to thank Warriors’ management team for allowing me to complete this international commitment. It’s always a good experience to be around an international set-up and I’m sure the tour will be of great benefit.”

Nick Johnston, Warriors’ high performance director, said: “For Mike to be asked to go away with the England Saxons this summer is testament to the work he has done at the club in recent seasons.

“His expertise will be hugely beneficial to the medical team in South Africa and the trip will give him more valuable experience.”
