Murphy returns to fire City’s season

WORCESTER City have welcomed back young forward Jordan Murphy on loan but waved goodbye to another striker ahead of today’s clash with Corby Town.

The 19-year old has signed on an initial one-month youth loan from Walsall to bolster the Blue and Whites’ attacking options.

Murphy scored two goals last season in his previous loan spell between October 2014 and January 2015 and formed part of City’s attention-grabbing FA Cup run which included a giant-killing against Coventry City.

The talented teen will be in familiar surroundings at Aggborough as he has also spent time on loan with Kidderminster Harriers earlier this season.

Murphy’s arrival became crucial this week as City confirmed striker Shaun Harrad had left the club.

The 31-year-old made 17 appearances in four months with the National League North outfit after signing in September.

The former Burton, Notts County and Cheltenham forward has joined National League strugglers Torquay United.

Experienced winger Ashley Vincent has also left City after becoming frustrated at the lack of time on the pitch in recent weeks.

The Blue and Whites were scuppered by the weather last Saturday (January 9) as their game with Lowestoft Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

A date is yet to be set for the re-arranged clash but City will hope for better weather this weekend when they welcome struggling Corby Town to Aggborough.

The Blue and Whites hope to have experienced forward duo Lee Hughes and Deon Burton available for the clash.
