Worcestershire County League

WORCESTER CC sealed the Worcestershire County League Division One title and a return to the Birmingham League despite a 43 run loss to city rivals Worcester Nomads.

Pershore’s 25 run defeat at Belbroughton meant Liam Weston’s side could celebrate promotion with two games left.

Sam Roberts unbeaten 101 helped Nomads to 222-6 off their 50 overs, as Weston took 3-45 for the hosts.

Worcester opener Russell Pitchers hit 63, but Richard Henry, Dominic Badger and Christopher Hyde all picked up three wickets each as Worcester were bowled out for 179.

Elsewhere Droitwich were shot out for just 59 as they suffered a five-wicket defeat at Harvington, Hagley beat Evesham by seven wickets, Pedmore beat Colwall by 84 runs and Redditch earned a 64 run win over Bromyard.

In Division Two, Worcester Dominies maintained their push for promotion with a four-wicket win at Wormelow.

Dominies are now just eight points behind second-placed Bewdley, who suffered a 31 run loss at Oldswinford.

Wormelow’s Jamie Banfield smashed an unbeaten 131 off 152 balls to guide his side to 257-6.

Dominies chase got off to an ideal start as Stephen Miles and captain John Hancock put on 140 for the first-wicket before Hancock fell for 44.

Miles was dismissed shortly after for a brutal 87 off 56 balls including five sixes, but Chris Miles struck 42 and Andrew Wilks hit an unbeaten 25 off 24 balls to see Dominies home with three balls to spare.

Relegated Rushwick suffered a humiliating 242 run defeat to champions Burghill & Tillington as they were skittled for just 51.

Old Vigornians were bowled out for 189 as they lost by 116 runs at home to Alvechurch & Hopwood in Division Three.

Matt Hayward (85), Adam Markham-Jones (50) and Dan Wolstencroft (50) all notched up half-centuries for the visitors as they made 305-9 in their 50 overs.

In their reply, no OVs batsmen could kick on despite a number getting starts as Rob Launchbury-Thomas top scored with 37.

Birmingham League

HEMAKA Pathiranage’s seven-wicket haul earned Old Elizabethans a thumping seven-wicket win over Coventry & North Warwickshire in Division Two of the Birmingham League.

Pathiranage took 7-21 as Coventry were skittled for just 81 before the hosts knocked off the runs in just 19.2 overs.

After OEs skipper Jamie Boyle won the toss and elected to bowl first, his decision paid off immediately as Liam Booth caught and bowled Matthew Pickering for nought.

Wicket-keeper, Luke Reeves (26), and Matthew Clements (7) then put on 37 for the second-wicket, the highest partnership of the innings, before Pathiranage dismissed Clements and Reeves to leave the visitors 39-3.

Pathiranage soon had another two scalps and Joe Taylor dismissed Greg Beaufoy for 14, the second highest score of the Coventry innings.

The wicket of Adam Simpson gave Pathiranage his five-for and he then took the next two wickets before Elliott Bartlett finished off the innings in the 33rd over.

Boyle fell without scoring in the OEs chase, but Johann Smit (19), Jonathan Miles (22) and Joe Taylor (17 not out) all contributed as the hosts reached their target with more than 30 overs to spare.
