FT: Worcester City 1-2 Gloucester City

Worcester Editorial 14th Apr, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

LIVE updates from our man at Aggborough, Jonny Bonell, where Worcester City continue their Vanarama Conference North campaign against arch-rivals Gloucester City.

The live update has now finished..

– Gloucester retain their Conference North status for another season thanks to goals from Orenuga and Williams. A Geddes penalty had restored parity in the first half before Williams put Gloucester back into the lead. All the chances fell to Worcester but they failed to take them and Gloucester gobbled up the opportunity. It is now seven straight wins over Worcester for the Gloucester. Thanks for following tonight.

FULL TIME: WORCESTER CITY 1-2 GLOUCESTER CITY

90+1min: Another great chance for Worcester but Symons hooks his effort over the bar. “We are staying up” rings out from the away support.

3 minutes added time

89min: Symons with another chance from a Geddes corner but his snap shot is fired wide.

84min: SUB: Orenuga off for Knowles for Gloucester and Waldron on for Denny for Worcester.

83min: Dunkley inches away again from levelling things up for a second time. More great work from City sees Nti flick the ball into the wingers path but his effort goes just past the far post.

81min: Yellow card: Haynes the next man in the book for a late foul on Williams.

79min: Yellow card: Orenuga booked for dissent for Gloucester.

76min: Geddes takes aim from 25-yards but his effort flies well wide.

More on goal: Again Wright was involved for the visitors as his shot was deflected up in the air, but the ball fell to Williams who made no mistake and cushioned the ball past Vaughan. Wright brought off to boos from the Worcester fans for Harry White.

71min: GOAL: Worcester City 1-2 Gloucester City – Williams

69min: Closest we have come to a goal in this half as Weir’s ball into the box is left by Geddes, Symons tees it back to Dunkley who strikes the ball inches past the post.

66min: Good chance for Dunkley as he races on to Nti’s flick but his effort is well kept out by White.

64min: Geddes balloons a cross behind for a goal kick. That just about sums up the quality of the last ten minutes.

61min: Yellow card: Charles gets his name taken for a cynical foul on Orenuga.

57min: SUB: Sousa is brought off for Dunkley in Worcester’s first change of the evening.

54min: Williams turned well in the box but his low shot is saved comfortably by Vaughan. Bit of a scuffle between Weir and former Worcester man Wright.

50min: Symons should have given Worcester the lead here. Sousa drilled in a low ball from the right and Symons received the ball in the box but his shot on the turn went wide of the post.

48min: The resulting free-kick was whipped in by Geddes and Nti’s flicked header hit Williams and went behind. Sousa then fires a fierce drive just wide.

47min: Yellow card: Connolly goes into the book early in the second half for a late challenge on Sousa.

Attendance: 583

– The players are back out and the second half is underway.

– A lively first 45 here at Aggborough in this Severn derby. Orenuga had Gloucester ahead early on but a Geddes penalty restored parity after 33 minutes. Rowe also flicked a header against the bar as the hosts dominated for large parts of the first 45. A point will just about do it for Gloucester’s Conference North safety, barring a 12-goal swing in Brackley’s favour.

HALF TIME: Worcester City 1-1 Gloucester City

41min: Yellow card: Nti now gets his name taken for a foul on Webb.

38min: WOODWORK: Worcester doing all the pressing here and Geddes’ corner is flicked onto the bar by the on-rushing Rowe.

More on goal: Geddes took aim from outside the box, White made a smart save but with Symons looking likely to get to the rebound Green pulled Symons back in the box and the penalty was given. Green was shown a yellow and Geddes made no mistake by smashing home the spot kick.

33min: GOAL: Worcester City 1-1 Gloucester City – Sean Geddes (P)

32min: PENALTY WORCESTER

30min: Great link up between Williams and Orenuga almost sees the former charge through on goal but Charles is there to get an important foot in.

27min: Deeney whips a dangerous free-kick in which is flicked over the top by Rowe. Rowe then performs heroics at the other end to deny Williams when he charged through on goal.

25min: Rash clearances out of the back from Worcester here, gifting Gloucester a succession of throw-ins down the right hand side.

20min: Best move of the game comes Worcester’s way as neat play between Geddes and Denny feeds Nti who runs into the box but the striker was leaning back and scoops his effort well over the top.

18min: Webb gets a dangerous cross into the near post and Vaughan has to punch the ball behind for a Gloucester corner. Comes to nothing.

14min: Nti comes close again as this time he takes aim from the edge of the box but his effort takes a nick and goes just over the top. Geddes’ delivery well held by White.

11min: Nearly a spectacular equaliser by Nti who tried on over-head kick from Geddes’ header which flew just over the top.

More on goal: Gloucester had hardly been out of their own half here and Orenuga has put them ahead. Williams flicked the ball into the former Worcester striker Wright who played a neat ball into Orenuga to slide the ball past Vaughan.

6min: GOAL: Worcester City 0-1 Gloucester City – Orenuga

5min: Vaughan nearly got himself into all sorts of trouble as his attempted clearance sliced up into the air and he fumbled his punch under pressure from former Worcester man Wright. Charles was on hand to clear.

3min: Weir wins a corner early on for Worcester after good work down the left. Taken short and Worcester are forced back.

2min: Small pocket of Gloucester fans in the stand behind the visiting goal making a fair bit of noise early on. Worcester  have kept the ball well in the Gloucester half in the opening stages.

1min: Worcester get us underway here kicking from left to right in their traditional blue and white. Gloucester in their yellow and black.

KICK OFF

– The two teams are out and we are about ready for kick off.

– Just ten minutes until kick off here as both sides head in from their warm-up.

– Carl Heeley makes two changes to the side which ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Hyde on Saturday. Kyle Haynes is back in the squad in place of Shab Khan who drops to the bench. Michael Taylor – who was substituted 33 minutes into that win with a knee injury – is also out of the squad with Jay Denny coming in to replace him. Worcester will face a familiar foe up front for the opposition in Nick Wright. The striker started the season at Aggborough and bagged a brace in the opening day draw against Stalybridge Celtic, but has since moved to The Tigers.

– Here are today’s teams:

Worcester City: Nathan Vaughan; Kyle Haynes, Anthony Charles, Jacob Rowe, Tyler Weir; Jay Denny, Ellis Deeney (C); Joao Sousa, Sean Geddes, Daniel Nti; Mike Symons SUBS: Shabir Khan, Tristian Dunkley, Dean Waldron, Jamie Smith, Jose Veiga

Gloucester City: Paul White; Mike Green, Billy Jones, Matt Williams, Sam Avery, Adam Connolly, James Bowen, Tom Webb (C), Nick Wright, Harry Williams, Femi Orenuga SUBS: Ross Staley, Connor Thompson, Chris Knowles, Harry White, Harvey Rivers

Referee: Daniel Meeson

– Worcester’s recent record against Gloucester is poor, to say the least. Since Boxing Day 2011 – when the Blue and Whites beat The Tigers 2-1 – Gloucester have won the following six games. In those games, Gloucester have notched 13 goals while Worcester have only hit the back of the net on four occasions.

– Welcome to Aggborough, the temporary home of the Blue and Whites, where Carl Heeley’s Worcester City will be looking to secure the derby day bragging rights with a victory over The Tigers. For our preview ahead of what is sure to be a fiery encounter, click here.
